All American Whiskey Earns Double Gold and Gold Barleycorn Awards

Start-up whiskey culture site smashes whiskey awards marketing segment.

CHICAGO—All American Whiskey was recognized by the Society of Spirits Writers & Marketers today. A 2022 Double Gold medal was awarded in the “Social Media” category for overall blog and a 2022 Gold medal was awarded in the “Website” category for online media magazine.

The awards recognize All American Whiskey’s website design, Bull Garlington’s writing, and the overall delivery from the All American Whiskey creative team under Bull’s leadership start-up whiskey site.

“We took an oddball editorial strategy,” Garlington said, “because we don’t review whiskey. We focus on the people who make it, on the mindset of the people who drink it, and on the cultural touchstones adjacent to the whiskey industry.”

The John Barleycorn Society is an assemblage of the world’s top journalists and spirits industry professionals who foster a modern approach to recognizing excellence in the spirits industry from seed to glass. Taste, print and digital marketing, package design, public relations, journalism, social media, event production, filmmaking, and bar design are some of the general categories judged by our select panels.

“The American whiskey industry has a lot of colorful characters with interesting stories to tell,” said Founder and CEO Scott Dayton. “Incredibly proud to have the Society of Spirits Writers & Marketers recognize the quality and creativity that Bull Garlington and our creative team put into telling those stories.  Writers being recognized by other writers: that kind nod from your peers is just an incredible validation of Bull and team’s vision and hard work.”

All American Whiskey, Inc launched in September 2021 to explore the stories of the people who make, distribute, and serve American craft whiskies.

The website is distinguished by its overall visual appeal, quality writing, and their special questionnaire-based branded editorial departments.

“Mash Bill,” is for blenders and distillers
“Whiskey, Neat,” is for bartenders, distributers, and beverage industry workers
“Girl Drinks,” is for women mixologists and bartenders to promote their whiskey-based cocktails

Each department offers a self-guided form, similar to a Proust questionnaire to interested participants. Stories are highly promoted, each has its own social media stream, and each has its own thematic Spotify playlist.

“It vindicates our choices. The writing leans toward Bourdain and Hunter S. Thompson. It’s literary and punk. We pointed the website away from whiskey reviews and tastings and oriented our editorial strategy to focus on the people who make whiskey happen,” said Garlington. “These departments offer industry workers and professionals a venue for self-promotion that looks cool and has relevant traffic. Basically, we’re a grain to glass website.”
